IELTS BAND SCORE

The IELTS Band Scores range from 0 to 9, reflecting levels of English proficiency. Each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is scored individually, and the overall band score is the average of the four.

Band Descriptions:

  • Band 9: Expert User – Fully operational with complete fluency and accuracy.
  • Band 8: Very Good User – Occasional inaccuracies but excellent command of English.
  • Band 7: Good User – Generally good with some misunderstanding in unfamiliar contexts.
  • Band 6: Competent User – Effective command despite occasional mistakes.
  • Band 5: Modest User – Partial command with frequent errors and limited fluency.
  • Band 4: Limited User – Basic competence in familiar situations; frequent communication problems.
  • Band 3: Extremely Limited User – Only conveys general meaning; breakdowns in communication.
  • Band 2: Intermittent User – Severe difficulty in understanding and using English.
  • Band 1: Non-User – No ability to use English except a few words.
  • Band 0: Did Not Attempt – No test information provided.

Scores may include half bands (e.g., 6.5) to reflect finer distinctions in proficiency.
